Fox Cities Book Festival

Author: Lauren Kessler
COUNTERCLOCKWISE: The hope -- and the HYPE -- of anti-aging
In her series of talks and readings from the nationally acclaimed book, Kessler will, as one reviewer says, "take a machete to all the nonsense and tell you everything you need to know." We have far more control than we think we do about how (and how quickly) we age.

This year the Fox Cities Book Festival will devote an evening to the discussion and understanding of autism at the event The Reason I Jump: Autism & Our Community. The celebrated bestseller The Reason I Jump: the Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism by Naoki Higashida will be the starting point for this evening’s discussion.

The book offers an intimate look at life from an autistic boy’s perspective. Talk will not be limited to the book, however. The organizers intend for the event to bring together people from across the community for a far-ranging discussion about autism in the Fox Cities area.

Book Festival Author: Jen Larsen

Jen “jen fu” Larsen is a writer, editor, proofreader and interpretive dancer living for less on the outskirts of Salt Lake City. She is the author of Stranger Here (How Weight-Loss Surgery Transformed My Body and Messed with My Head). She had weight loss surgery in 2006 and lost almost 200 pounds. While she is still trying to figure out what that means in terms of health and body acceptance, she feels she’s been lucky to have experienced the full spectrum of weight and size issues on either end of the scale. If you put a gun to her head and said “chocolate or cheese?” she’d close her eyes very tight and say pull the trigger, man. She loves ponies, puppies, cumulus clouds and you–just the way you are.
