The Girlfriends Read Book Club at the Neenah Public Library will meet on Thursday, September 28 at 4:00 p.m.  Girlfriends Read features books with strong girl characters, written for ages nine and up but with broad appeal. Meetings include lively discussion, book-related activities, and snacks. Participants are welcome to attend solo or with a friend or family member.

Join us in reading Newberry Honor Award Winner Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson.  In this graphic novel created by a real-life roller girl, twelve-year old Astrid discovers the fun, tough, and cool world of roller derby.  With great enthusiasm, Astrid enrolls in roller derby camp for the summer while her very best friend Nicole spends summer in dance camp with a new best friend.  Roller derby is tough, but friendships, growing up, and fitting-in are tougher.

Roller girls from Fox Cities Roller Derby will join us at our book group meeting on September 28.  Learn all about derby play, try your skill with off-skate drills, and create your own derby name!  These roller girls are excited to meet you and share about their own experiences in roller derby.

To register and get a copy of the book, stop at the Neenah Library youth desk, call for more information at 920-886-6335, or email us at youthdesk@neenahlibrary.org.  Register early – space is limited, as are the number of books available for loan.
