Beck, Executive Director at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute – Just 90 miles from the coast of Florida, the tense bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Cuba has kept many Americans from visiting the island over the last five decades. Recently, with restrictions relaxed, Americans have begun to experience Cuba for the first time. Upon arrival, visitors will find great contrasts. While many parts of Cuban life are economically depressed and politically repressed, there is still much to appreciate in the country's commitment to education, health and the social sciences.
