Don will share information about his trips to Florida & Louisiana with a photo log about birds and gators in the Everglades and Louisiana swamps. There will be some additional photos of above-ground cemeteries in New Orleans as well as the wonderful Cajun food that is all the rave when traveling to Louisiana.
Nicaragua: Birds and Bird Conservation with Bill Volkert, Naturalist. – Since 2002, Bill has made 7 trips to Nicaragua in an effort to promote conservation and education programs for migratory and resident birds. Many of these are the same birds that nest here in summer and his work has been a cooperative effort with the scientists in Nicaragua to protect these birds on both ends of their migration. Changing Bird Populations with Bill Mueller, Director of the Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory near Port Washington, WI – Bird populations naturally fluctuate, but some species are clearly increasing; others are experiencing marked declines, and conservationists are concerned about them. This presentation will describe examples from many species in Wisconsin, how we know about their population numbers, and what we've learned recently.
